Sam Rayburn is 162.68 and still falling. The water temperature has been in the low to mid 80s. The water has been clear to around 2 ft

The fishing has been doing better everyday as the water cools down. We have had several days we caught some big fish with a 5 fish limit of around 20 lbs with one running around 7 lbs. I have broke several off this week. The best bite have been in 8 to 16 feet around points and creeks. Hydrilla is a big factor. The top water bite has been doing good around the matted grass. The Stanley “New High Floater” Ribbit is the best bait as you can run it across the matted part and stop it in the pockets and hang on. We’ve been catching a few on CrankBaits in some of the ditches and points but they seam to be there one day and gone the next. The Texas rig has been doing good working it over the grass. Most of these fish are in small groups and finding them is the first thing.
As the fish will be fatting up for the winter months the fall fishing can be awesome here on “ Big Sam” so get your gear out and get on the lake. As for colors shad, chrome, white and Chartreuse. In the plastics try Watermelon Red, Junebug, Red Shad , Green Pumpkin, and Watermelon Candy. You don’t hear a lot about sound and vibration in most reports but it makes a big difference on the water. Different Crankbaits have different sounds and vibration and you’ll find that at times the only hit one bait. If you’re not getting any bites change something, don’t just stick with one bait.

Big Sam has been above and below pool this year several times and that makes for some strange fishing.
The places I caught fish last year just hasn’t been as good and places that where bad before have been doing good. Just when you think you got the fish figured out something changes. It shows that the more you learn about the lake the better off you are. This is a big lake and with the right help you could turn the scales in your favor. Boy do I know the cost off fuel to run all over the place looking for fish . If you need some help give me a call so we can get you setup with a trip that can teach you how to save time and fuel by fishing the major hot spots on any lake.

I’ll have a Bass Class on the Water that will be running thru the fall into early spring and covers a lot of information . Detailed Instructions on GPS, Sonar, Water Temperature, Water Color, Weather, Sound, Scent, Structure both on and off shore. I am running a Lowrance 112 LCX with the latest software to help you see the lake like you have never seen it before. I’ll be adding a new page to my site with more details.

There also a new page listing the Tournaments on Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend courtesy of The Lakecaster . If you have any club Tournament you would like me to list just let me know.

The Crappie have been doing a lot better this week with some good catches. I have seen a few that weighed in around 2 lbs. The bridge has been giving up a few as have the brush piles that sit in deep water. The best depth has been around 27 ft. Good luck! Remember if you need to go Crappie Fishing give me a call. I will also be having a class on the water telling how to build brush piles and the best places to put them .
