Sam Rayburn has dropped this week to 162.37. That doesn’t sound bad. It was actually a bit lower and came up from the rain we got the other night. The water has really started to get a lot of color from the rivers as they pull more water each day.

There hasn’t been any big change this week as the weather is still keeping things slow. We have managed to catch a few fish on traps and Stanley Spinner baits. We caught them in the grass as a few had moved up last week. The grass has still been holding some fish but getting them to bite has been the hardest thing to do. Senko’s and wacky worms worked over the grass and down the edges should pick up a few fish. Look for these fish to move into the outer edges of the points and then move in slowly from there. The males will be first to move back into the pockets and start cruising the spawning areas as the water warms up. The females will start to move into the first staging areas then wait till everything is just right. It only takes a couple of good days to kick this spawn into high gear. Look for some bigger fish off points and around the deeper grass edges. Carolina and Texas rigged lizards should pick up a few of these fish as they move in. Here are a few colors to start with, Pumpkin seed, Green Pumpkin and Watermelon Red. I hope to hear from you if you catch something big out there. If you haven’t heard, it encourages anglers who catch a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. Crappie; The Crappie are still slow because of all the rain and fresh water we have had in the last few weeks. This time of year you play with the wind as the fronts move through. Between the fronts there are usually a few days that the wind will lay down.
